So this all started with a student saying, "I wanna build a computer" as I was talking to him during lunch. The student had never built a computer before, but was really excited to try. Within the hour I had a parts list in his hand since the TSI class would like to do the same... hopefully with grant funds from the IVCEF... PLEASE!!! I digress... Although the student did not use the same parts as the TSI students, he was inspired to ask his parents for a dollar or two for the new build. After much anticipation, the PC parts were delivered and the build began. The student did a great job with the build, but could not get the PC to boot up. He only heard an annoying BEEP, BEEP, BEEP... pause... BEEP, BEEP, BEEP... pause... and repeat. How depressing! I received a panicked email from the student on a Saturday evening asking what to do. I assured him that I probably did not have the knowledge to solve his problem, but knew just the people who may. The student brought the PC to school and we were able to determine that it is more than likely a memory issue. After replacing the RAM a number of times to try to find the right combination we were still unsuccessful. I write this blog to encourage the student to continue the build, and stay focused on the successes. The student has learned so much and met some cool people along the way! Stay tuned to see this PC dream become a reality!!
